A full classic, this is a fine representative of an iconic sports car. Although not an official designation, the TR3A that debuted in late 1957 proved to be Triumph’s most popular model ever, thanks to its best in class performance, legendary reliability and stout construction. It was the first mass-production sports car to feature front disc brakes and was available for purchase with a number of options that made it a formidable competitor on the race or rally circuit. With affordability that was competitive with the much slower MG TD, Triumph continued to improve upon the basic formula, introducing the TR3 in 1955. Boasting performance that was on par with the more expensive Austin-Healey 100 and exceptional handling, Triumph took the sports car market by storm.

The TR3’s loyal followers rave of exciting motoring experiences, and this lovely example promises its next owner the same. Reportedly, this is the vintage car that Blake Nordstrom used the most, enjoying the TR3 as a vintage urban runabout when weather permitted. The engine was rebuilt in 2017, and the car has been driven approximately 900 miles since then. Its gleaming red finish is well contrasted with black seat covers and red carpets. This beautiful little TR3A was subject to a careful and exacting restoration that has now taken on a mellowed patina from careful use.

Offering improved specification and real-world performance from earlier models, the TR3A represents a sweet spot in the TR3 range. Approximately 58,000 TR3A models were built between 19. Changes included a full-width grille, exterior door handles, and lockable boot lid. For the 1957 model year the TR3 was updated again, this time to “A” specification. When the TR2 became the TR3 in 1955, it was accompanied by many updates including additional power. The model was robust and attractive, and the offered performance made it the lowest-priced production car to reach 100 mph, according to The Motor magazine. Capitalizing on the sports car craze that followed WWII, Triumph Motor Company introduced the TR2 in 1953.
